1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using PDFSleuth ("Service") at pdfsleuth.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, do not use our Service.

These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the Service. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Description of Service

PDFSleuth is a web-based document search tool that enables you to search for keywords and phrases across multiple PDF files simultaneously. The Service is provided on a subscription basis with several tiers, including a free tier.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

3. Accounts & Registration

To access certain features you must register for an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information.
  • Keep your password secure and not share it with any third party.
  • Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account.

We reserve the right to terminate accounts, remove or edit content, or cancel subscriptions at our sole discretion.

4. Subscriptions & Payment

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. All payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our authorised payment processor. By subscribing, you authorise Lemon Squeezy to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.

  • Billing cycle: Charges occur at the start of each billing period.
  • Price changes: We will provide at least 14 days' notice before changing subscription prices.
  • Taxes: Prices are exclusive of applicable taxes unless otherwise stated. You are responsible for all applicable taxes.
  • Failed payments: If a payment fails, your subscription may be paused or downgraded to the free tier until payment is resolved.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Upload or process documents containing illegal content.
  • Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Infringe any intellectual property rights of any party.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its related systems.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service without our written consent.
  • Transmit viruses, malware, or any other malicious or harmful code.
  • Exceed the usage limits of your subscription plan.

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate legal action against anyone who violates this provision.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by PDFSleuth and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

You retain all rights to any PDF files or documents you upload. By uploading content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence solely to process your files for the purpose of providing the Service. We do not store your files after processing is complete.

7. Privacy

Your use of PDFSleuth is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any content or results provided by the Service.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PDFSleuth shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses — resulting from:

  • Your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the Service.
  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the Service.
  • Unauthorised access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content.

In no event shall our total liability to you for all claims exceed the greater of €100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.
